Stuck in Spectator Mode (Patch 9.13)

Uh-oh! After Patch 9.13 went through, we've come across a problem after leaving Spectator Mode... The Play Button, along with others, doesn't show up! But don't worry. There's a few things you can try.

First, we've noticed a correlation between the "Close client during game" feature and this error. We recommend disabling the feature within Client Options if you run into this. Some people were able to resolve this through the following:

YAML Deletion

  • Launch League of Legends, log in, and minimize the League Client.
  • Go to the League of Legends configuration folder, which is located by default at C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config and delete the file called LeagueClientSettings.yaml.
  • Restart the League Client.

Disable Close Client

  • Press on the options button
  • Go to Client/General
  • Un-check the option “Close client during game”
  • Give the client a restart


If neither of the above options work, you can also try the following:


Disable Low Spec mode

  • Press on the options button
  • Go to Client/General
  • Un-check the option “Enable Low Spec Mode”
  • Give the client a restart

Wipe the config files

  • Head into C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config
  • Delete everything in there
  • Restart the client.

If all else fails, you can resort to a clean reinstall of the client.

To reinstall the game client, please use the Hextech Repair Tool which can be found here. Make sure to Install the HRT as admin (don't change any settings and stick with the default) and run it from your desktop as admin.

Once you open it, you can start the re-installation process with the Hextech Repair Tool by checking the “Reinstall” option and "Clean Uninstall," prior to running it.

If the issue still happens after running through all three steps, reach out to us through a Support ticket with the logs from the Hextech Repair Tool.
