The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) affects the way digital games and companies like Riot process user data for players under each country’s age of eligibility. This page specifically deals with questions you may have about your child’s League of Legends account and what you need to do to grant them continued access to it. If you’re interested in how we’re handling user data overall, please see our Privacy Policy.
You should receive an email from Riot Games asking you to acknowledge your child’s use of a League of Legends account. If you have no further questions, just respond to that email and your child will continue playing as normal. If there’s anything you’d like to discuss that’s not covered here, complete the form at Parents of Underage Players FAQ and Contact and we’ll be happy to field any questions.
Frequently asked questions:
What is League of Legends?
League of Legends is a competitive, team-oriented online game. You can check out this video (English only) for a quick rundown.
What sort of in-game purchases are part of League of Legends?
Players can earn content and in-game currency by playing the game. They can also purchase Riot Points (RP) with real-world currency, which can be used to purchase characters and cosmetic items. RP can only be purchased using a credit card or by redeeming a pre-paid card.
Who can talk to my child in League of Legends?
League of Legends has a client and a phone app which enables players to text chat with other players they’ve added to their friends list. Players can communicate with one another during games in a group chat room, which can be restricted to only players on their team. There is also a voice chat which activates when players are part of a pre-made team.
I can't find the email my child sent me.
Ask your child to sign into parents.riotgames.com and send another email to your address.
What control do I have over my child’s account?
Until your child reaches the age of eligibility in your country, you may change information on the account or restrict access to the account. Please note that you will be required to provide your child’s username and server and requests must be sent from the email address you used to give your child permission.
I’d like to know what information you have about my child from their League of Legends account.
In order to better secure this data, we only share it with the original creator of the account. Work with your child to send us a support ticket. After verifying that your child is the original creator of the account, we can share the information you need. There is a 30 day waiting period to process these requests.
I want to change information or the email address I have linked to my child’s account.
In order to change the linked email address, please send us a ticket (When prompted by the drop-down, select "I need help recovering my account", and simply fill in the "Subject" and "Description" fields). After confirming that you are the parent of the account creator, we’ll be able to change your email address as well as make any necessary edits to your child’s account.
My child is under the age of eligibility and playing your game, but I never received an email about it.
This is either because your child used an inaccurate date of birth, or because they didn’t use your email address when creating their account. Work with your child to have them submit a ticket with the information that needs to be updated, and we’ll do our best to help them.
