Vanguard Error Codes and Solutions (LoL)

If you're running into an error code that begins with VAN when trying to load League of Legends, it means something in your settings isn't playing well with Vanguard. But don't worry—most of these errors have a simple solution.

Vanguard Error Codes

Uninstall Failure Reinstall Riot Vanguard. If the problem persists, please /submit a ticket at the bottom of this page.

VAN 0

Connection Error - May be caused by leaving the League Client running for longer than 7 days, triggering Vanguard re-authentication. Restart League of Legends and the Riot Client.

Connection Error Restart League of Legends and the Riot Client.

VAN 68

Connection Error Check Network Connection, Restart League of Legends and the Riot Client.

VAN -81

VAN 84

Connection Error Check Network Connection, Restart League of Legends and the Riot Client.

VAN -102

Connection Error Restart your PC and the Riot Client. If the problem persists, uninstall Riot Vanguard and League of Legends, then do a fresh reinstallation of both. If the problem persists, please /submit a ticket at the bottom of this page.

Connection Error Restart your PC and the Riot Client. If the problem persists, uninstall Riot Vanguard and League of Legends, then do a fresh reinstallation of both. If the problem persists, please /submit a ticket at the bottom of this page.

VAN 128

Connection Error

Restart your PC and the Riot Client.

VAN 138

Connection Error (Running LoL/Riot Vanguard from virtual machine) Install League of Legends and Riot Vanguard on a regular instance of Windows instead of a virtual one.

VAN 152

VAN 185

Connection Error - May be caused by leaving the League Client running for longer than 7 days or being logged into the client on multiple devices. Restart League of Legends and the Riot Client and log out of the Client on other devices.

VAN 1067

Connection Error Restart your PC and the Riot Client. This error can mean there's unusual software installed on your computer, so if a reboot doesn't work, consider scanning for malware or looking for suspicious activities in the Task Manager.

VAN9001

TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0 is not enabled Please see this article on how to check whether your Windows 11 system supports TPM 2.0, and how to troubleshoot. 

VAN9002

Exploit Protection is not enabled Please see this article on how to enable Exploit Protection.

VAN9005

This version of Vanguard requires TPM version 2.0 and UEFI compliant firmware in order to use Virtualization-based Security (VBS) Please see this article to change your BIOS Mode to UEFI and enable TPM 2.0.

VAN9006

You are currently running an older version of Windows that will no longer be supported by Vanguard.  Update to Windows 10, build  number 10.0.17134 Codename Redstone 4 (Version 1803) or later to continue playing League of Legends
