Keyloggers: What are they and how can you protect yourself from them

Help banner for League of Legends support Keyloggers. Riot K-9 Nasus says: Your account is only as secure as your computer!

Before we begin, do you know what a keylogger is and how it works?
A keylogger is a program designed to create a log of everything we type on our computer. This means it saves text characters, passwords, data and any other kind of written communication. There are even some that can take screenshots every now and then.

They can come as attachments with files we download or receive, such as songs or photos, or hidden in links we open. Be very careful when accessing your account on shared computers (at a cybercafe, for example) and avoid downloading content from unknown websites.

If you notice a program called BK.exe or AKL.exe running on your computer, you should know that you might have a keylogger. In order to remove it, run your antivirus software and don't forget to change every password you have used on that computer.

"OK, but how do I avoid having a keylogger installed on my computer?"

Here are some tips that will help you prevent these attacks:

  • Install trustworthy antivirus software and a trustworthy firewall and always keep them updated.
  • Don't open emails from people you don't know.
  • Steer clear of suspicious links.
  • Always keep your Internet browser and operating system updated.
  • If your antivirus software detects a threat, immediately place it into quarantine and run a scan.
