Credit Card Fraud

Being a victim of theft is never good or pleasant, especially if it's your credit card. While we do our utmost to keep all the billing information secure, it doesn't hurt to know what to do in the unlikely case your credit card becomes compromised or gets used without your authorization. The guide below breaks it down into 3 easy steps:

Report the unauthorized charges as soon as you see them

It might sound obvious, but the quicker the fraud is reported the quicker precautions can be taken to reverse the charges and to re-secure your card. Check your credit card statement at least once a month to ensure that you catch any unwanted charges before it's too late!

Identify unauthorized charges

If someone is using your card to buy RP or other League of Legends content, we will do our best to help! Let us know that something is wrong by sending us a ticket with the following information:

  • Last 4 digits of the card
  • First 6 digits of card
  • Expiration date
  • Dates of transactions
  • Amount of purchase
  • Transaction ID, if available

Once we are able to confirm the above details in our billing system, we can quickly suspend the account using the card to prevent further charges and refund all purchases made.  The money will be returned to you within 3-5 business days.

Alternatively, if someone is using your card for purchases of services or products that are not offered by Riot games, you should definitely dispute them with your financial institution. Many companies have toll-free numbers and 24-hour service to deal with such emergencies. It's a good idea to follow up your phone calls with a letter. Include your account number, when you noticed your card was missing/used fraudulently, and the date you first reported it stolen or lost.

Here are some contact numbers for the most popular credit card companies:

  • American Express 1-800-992-3404
  • Visa 1-800-847-2911
  • MasterCard 1-800-627-8372
  • Discover 1-800-347-2683

Re-secure your card

Please don't forget to ask the credit card company/bank to issue a new, secure card so your details cannot be re-used fraudulently! Almost every company does this automatically when fraud occurs on the card, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Unauthorized charges from other payment methods

If you've noticed unauthorized charges on a different payment method, such as PayPal, notify your payment provider immediately and send us a ticket.
