League of Legends Honor Guide

In League of Legends, the Honor system is a general reflection of any given player's in-and-out-of-game behavior. It rewards sportsmanlike conduct with additional perks like BXP bonuses and special content while punishing inappropriate behavior with reduced rewards and limited communication privileges.

Starting with Patch 25.04, ALL players will reset to Honor level 3, a true neutral home where all levels of chat are available. New players will likewise start at Honor 3. Play to win, play fair, and play nice, and you're likely to start climbing the levels to more and better perks.

After Patch 25.04, Honor doesn't reset, so cultivating a good reputation will pay dividends year after year.

Honor Features

Playing honorably is its own reward, but in League it also grants (or removes) access to several features before, during, and after matches:

Getting/Giving Honor

The biggest source of honor is post-match voting, where you and your teammates/enemies can divvy out honor votes to members of either team. You're limited to one vote per player, and once a vote is given, it cannot be retracted.

If you don't get votes, don't worry—you also get some honor from positive chat, good communication, and team coordination.

Earning Honor Votes

You always get at least one honor vote per game, but there are a few ways to increase that number:

Action Honor Vote(s) Gained
Play a match +1
Received Honor in the previous match +1
Honor 5 +1

Unused honor votes carry over between matches, but you can only have a maximum of four honor votes at any time.

A Team Effort

You get a small honor boost if everybody on your team gives out an honor vote. Winning is great, but when it comes to honor, even losing can pay off when you play as a team.

Honor Votes in Premade Groups

While we hope you're treating your friends well, we want to make sure that the Honor system rewards genuine good will among players who've really earned it. That's why giving an honor vote to somebody in your premade group (however deserved!) doesn't boost Honor.

But don't worry—you'll still earn honor for friendly comms and good teamwork.

Losing Honor

There are two ways you could drop down in honor:

1 - Playing Less Honorably

More than a high-water mark of your most honorable moments, Honor is an indicator of your current and most common actions. Maintaining high honor (levels 4+) requires you to continue the positive behaviors that got you there in the first place, like demonstrating good communication/coordination and being a positive influence on your team. If you reach a high level of honor and then stop communicating with your team, there's a good chance you'll eventually drop back down to Honor level 3.

But that doesn't mean you have to worry about a sudden drop out of nowhere. We'll let you know in-client if you're in danger of a demotion because your behavior isn't up to the standards you'd previously set, giving you the chance to rise once more to the occasion.

Finally, Honor only accounts for your in-game actions and won't go down with time if you take a break.

2 - Negative Behavior

Honor is lost when you have an active penalty on your account. You'll always get an in-client notification when this happens and more details are available on your profile page, so this should never come as a surprise.

Earning Redemption

If your Honor takes a hit due to disruptive behavior, we may give you a chance to get some of that Honor back by completing the Honor Restriction requirements. These requirements are viewable in-client and tell you how many matches you need to play without getting reported to climb back up. Just note that while you'll be restored to at least Honor 3, you may not return to Honor 4 or 5 depending on your behavior in those games.

Be careful, though—if you're issued another penalty while the Honor Restrictions are active, not only will you lose all the progress you've made towards getting your Honor level back, but any followup Honor Restrictions will require even more games to get back into good standing.

Other Questions

Does my honor come with me if I transfer servers?

Yep! Like so many other things, your honor level will make the trip with you when you transfer servers.

What happened to honor checkpoints, orbs, and all that other stuff I remember?

We build our systems with intent, and when that purpose isn't being fulfilled, it's time to shake things up. Veteran players will know this isn't the first time we've altered the Honor system, and hon(or)estly, it probably won't be the last.

This time we made adjustments to Honor's rewards to align with an overall shift towards a single progression track (BXP), as well as to make each tier of Honor provide more meaningful adjustments to how and where you can interact with other players.

What about my leftover Honor Tokens?

Drop into the Honor Shop to grab any Honor content you might've missed before. Come Patch 25.06, any remaining Honor 5 Tokens in your loot will be converted into 1050 Orange Essence.
